Help for sun spots, freckles and uneven tone
Brown spots on your cheeks and hands. Redness around your nose. Skin that looks uneven in photos. Most of this comes from years of sun, and it sits near the surface of the skin, where light can reach it.
IPL sends flashes of light that are drawn to brown spots and tiny red veins. Over the next week or two, spots typically darken and flake away, and redness softens as your skin renews itself.
What to expect during treatment
A session takes 30 to 45 minutes. We cleanse your skin, apply a cool gel, and give you eye protection, because the flashes are bright. Each flash feels like a warm snap, a little sharper over darker spots.
Afterward, the gel comes off and sunscreen goes on. Your skin may look flushed, like after a brisk walk. Most people go straight back to their day.
Who it’s for
It’s for you if you have light, medium or olive skin with sun spots, freckles, redness or uneven tone, and you’d like a short series of sessions to even things out.
IPL isn’t the right choice for brown or deeper skin tones. If that’s you, we’ll recommend a different option. We’ll also wait if you have a fresh tan, are pregnant, or have irritated skin in the area.
How we do it
Your visit starts with your skin, not the machine. We learn your skin tone and history, then choose settings for you. If something else will serve your skin better, we’ll tell you.
- A skin check every visit. We look at your skin tone and any recent sun before each session.
- A test spot for olive skin before your first full session.
- Gentle first. We start conservatively and adjust over your series as we see how your skin responds.
- Photos at every visit, in the same light, so you can see real progress.
Downtime and aftercare
Expect a day or two of redness. Then:
- Wear SPF 30 or higher every morning. This one matters most.
- Stay out of the sun and tanning beds during your series.
- Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Pause retinoids, acids and scrubs for about a week.
- Skip hot tubs, saunas and hard workouts for 24 hours.
- Let darkened spots flake off on their own. Don’t pick or scrub them.
- What’s normal: redness and mild swelling for a day or two, then spots that look darker, like coffee grounds, and flake off between days 5 and 10.
Results timeline
- Days 1–3: redness settles and spots darken.
- Days 5–10: darkened spots flake away.
- Weeks 2–4: tone looks more even, and redness keeps softening.
- Over 3–5 monthly sessions: gradual change, tracked in your photos.
- Long term: daily sunscreen helps your results last. Many people book a touch-up once or twice a year.

Questions and answers
How much does an IPL photofacial cost?
We publish prices on October 15, 2026, for single sessions and a series. You’ll see the full price before you book.
Does IPL hurt?
Each flash feels like a warm snap, a bit like a rubber band. We use a cool gel, and sessions are short. Most people call it briefly uncomfortable, and the warmth fades within the hour.
Can IPL darken or burn my skin?
It can if the light doesn’t suit your skin. That’s why we offer IPL only for light to olive skin, check your skin before every session, do a test spot for olive skin, and start gently. Brown spots are meant to darken for a few days before they flake off. That part is expected.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need 3–5 sessions, about a month apart. Each one builds on the last, and we compare photos along the way.
Is IPL right for darker skin?
IPL isn’t the right choice for brown or deeper skin tones. If that’s you, we’ll recommend a different option that fits your skin and your goals.
Can IPL treat melasma?
We don’t use IPL for melasma, because heat can make it worse. We start with sun protection and the right skincare, then look at next steps together at an assessment.
What will my skin look like afterward?
Pink for a day or two. Brown spots usually turn darker, like coffee grounds, then flake off over 5–10 days. That’s the treatment working, not a problem.
Can I wear makeup after a session?
Usually the next day. Mineral makeup is gentlest while spots flake. Put sunscreen on first.
How long do results last?
Mostly, that depends on the sun. Treated spots tend not to return on their own, but new sun damage builds up the same way the old did. Daily sunscreen helps, and many people book a touch-up once or twice a year.
How is IPL different from a laser?
A laser uses one kind of light. IPL uses a range of light, which lets it work on both brown spots and redness. That range is also why we keep IPL to light through olive skin.
