Fine Lines & Wrinkles in Alpharetta

Lines form for different reasons, and each kind responds to different care. Here’s how to tell them apart, what can help soften them, and how we’d work out what fits your skin.

Why do lines form?

Three things, usually together. Skin makes less collagen with age, so it bounces back less. Repeated expressions fold the skin in the same places until the creases stay. And the sun breaks down collagen faster, which is why sun-exposed skin lines earlier. More in oursun damage guide.

Lines that move, and lines that stay

Expression lines show up when you move: forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet. Muscles draw them. Resting lines are there even when your face is still, because they’re etched into the skin itself. Skin-focused care works mainly on resting lines and fine surface lines, so telling them apart is the first step.

What can help

  • Laser resurfacing. A gentle resurfacing laser that works beneath the surface while leaving the outer layer intact. It prompts the skin to build new collagen over several months, which can soften fine resting lines and improve texture. It’s designed for light to olive skin. For brown or deeper skin, it’s a careful conversation that starts with a test spot. About laser resurfacing.
  • Chemical peels. Light peels speed up the shedding of dull surface skin and can soften fine, dry-looking lines. How chemical peels work.
  • Daily skincare. A retinoid used steadily for months, plus sunscreen every day, is the base of any plan for lines.

Why skin tone matters here too

Collagen-building treatments work by causing small, controlled injury. On brown and deeper skin, that can leave dark marks if the approach or the pace is wrong. So we start with your skin tone and history, then choose the approach and the pace for your skin. How skin tone changes the plan. Related:skin texture and tone.

Common questions

What’s the difference between fine lines and wrinkles?

Mostly depth. Fine lines are shallow surface creases tied to dryness and early collagen loss. Wrinkles are deeper, either etched in at rest or drawn by muscles when you make expressions.

Can lines be removed?

They can be softened, not erased. Collagen-building treatments can improve the look of lines over months. Skin that moves will always crease a little, and anyone promising otherwise is overselling.

Do collagen-building treatments work on darker skin?

Collagen building happens in every skin tone, but the approach changes. Heat-based lasers carry a higher chance of dark marks on brown and deeper skin, so the choice, the pace and a test spot are set for your skin at your assessment.

How long until I see a change?

Months. New collagen forms over roughly two to three months after each session, and most plans involve a series. Anything that changes wrinkles overnight is usually swelling.

Do you offer Botox?

Injectable treatments are planned for a later date.

What’s the most helpful habit for preventing lines?

Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen. Sun breaks down collagen faster than any treatment can rebuild it.

How we assess it

Your lines assessment covers:

  • Your lines at rest and when you make expressions.
  • Your skin tone, which sets the limits for any laser work.
  • Your sun history and current sun protection.
  • Your experience with retinoids and past treatments, and how your skin healed.
  • Photos in the same light, so change over months is easy to see.
  • A written plan that says plainly what fits your lines. If something else will serve your skin better, we’ll tell you.
