Adult breakouts that won’t settle down
Red, tender breakouts don’t always end with your teens. For many adults they keep coming back, no matter how many cleansers and spot treatments you try.
IPL acne treatment uses light that’s absorbed by acne-causing bacteria. It’s designed to reduce those bacteria and calm active breakouts over a series. Because it targets bacteria, not the pigment in your skin, it tends to feel gentler than other IPL treatments.
It’s one part of a plan, not a cure. It works alongside good skincare and any prescription care you already use.
What to expect during treatment
Sessions are quick, about 20 to 30 minutes. We cleanse your skin, apply a cool gel and cover your eyes. Each flash feels like a warm snap, usually milder than other IPL treatments.
Acne sessions are closer together than other IPL work, often twice a week at the start. Expect short, frequent visits. You can go straight back to your day.
Who it’s for
It’s for you if you have light, medium or olive skin with mild to moderate breakouts, the red and tender kind, and you want a series of treatments alongside good skincare.
IPL isn’t the right choice for brown or deeper skin tones. If that’s you, we’ll recommend a different option. Deep, cystic acne and acne scars need a different approach too, and we’ll point you to it.
How we do it
Your visit starts with your skin, not the machine. We look at your skin tone, your breakouts and what you already use, then plan your sessions. If something else will serve your skin better, we’ll tell you.
- An honest skin check. We ask about your skincare, medicines and pregnancy, and tell you straight whether this is the right treatment for your acne.
- A test spot for olive skin before your first full session.
- A planned series, usually 6–8 sessions over 4–6 weeks, starting gently and adjusting as your skin responds.
- Photos at every visit. Acne changes day to day, so photos in the same light show real progress better than memory.
Downtime and aftercare
Any redness usually fades within a few hours. Then:
- Wear SPF 30 or higher every day. Oil-free formulas that won’t clog pores are easy to find.
- Keep cleansing gentle. Skip scrubs and brushes for a few days.
- Check with us before adding retinoids, acids or benzoyl peroxide right after a session. Keep using anything prescribed to you as directed.
- Don’t pick or squeeze breakouts.
- Skip hot yoga, saunas and hard workouts for the rest of the day.
- What’s normal: mild redness and warmth for a few hours. Existing breakouts can look a bit more noticeable for a day or two before they settle.
Results timeline
- Weeks 1–2: some people notice breakouts calming; others don’t yet. Both are normal.
- Weeks 3–6: we compare your skin with your first photos.
- End of series: an honest review. If it’s helping, we talk about touch-ups. If it isn’t, we say so and suggest what might suit your skin better.
- Ongoing: acne can flare again. Touch-up sessions are an option, never a requirement.
Pricing
We publish prices on October 15, 2026. Because acne treatment is a series, we’ll show series pricing next to single-session prices, so you can see the full cost before you start.
Questions and answers
How much does IPL acne treatment cost?
We publish prices on October 15, 2026, including series pricing. You’ll see the full price before you book.
Does it hurt?
It feels like a quick, warm snap. Most people find it milder than other IPL treatments. We use a cool gel, and sessions are short.
Can it darken or burn my skin?
It can if the light doesn’t suit your skin. That’s why we offer it only for light to olive skin, do a test spot for olive skin, and start gently. Tell us about any medicines you use, since some make skin more sensitive to light.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually 6–8 sessions over 4–6 weeks, closer together than other IPL treatments. Each one builds on the last, and we track progress with photos.
Will this cure my acne?
No, and no one should promise that. Acne has several causes, including hormones, oil, bacteria and inflammation. This treatment works on the bacteria. We’ll be honest about what it can and can’t do for your skin.
Does it replace my prescription treatment?
No. Keep using any prescription exactly as directed. That decision belongs with whoever prescribed it. Tell us everything you use, because some medicines change how your skin reacts to light.
What kind of acne does this help?
Mild to moderate breakouts: the red, tender bumps and pimples of an active flare. Deep, painful cysts need a dermatologist. If your acne needs more than this, we’ll tell you.
Can it help with acne scars?
This treatment is for active breakouts, not scars. For pitted or uneven scars, laser resurfacing or microneedling may fit better, and both start with a consultation. Dark marks left behind after a breakout often fade with time and sun protection.
Is it right for darker skin?
IPL isn’t the right choice for brown or deeper skin tones. If that’s you, we’ll recommend a different option for your breakouts.
Can I wear makeup afterward?
Usually that evening or the next morning. Choose oil-free products that won’t clog pores.
How soon will I see a difference?
Some people notice calmer skin in the first two weeks. Others need the full series. We review your photos at the end rather than promise a timeline.
