Less shaving and threading, with a laser chosen for your skin

If you have brown or dark skin, you may have been told laser hair removal isn’t for you. Or you tried it somewhere and your skin didn’t react well. Often the issue wasn’t your skin. It was a laser or setting that didn’t suit it.

For brown and dark skin, we use a hair-removal laser that’s labeled for hair removal on all skin types, including dark skin. It reaches the hair root while putting less of its energy into the pigment in your skin. Lighter skin is just as welcome, and we’ll choose what suits your skin and hair.

What to expect during treatment

Sessions take 15 to 60 minutes. An upper lip takes a few minutes; full legs take closer to an hour. We clean the area, you put on protective glasses, and we work across your skin in small sections. The handpiece cools your skin as it goes.

Each pulse feels like a quick snap of heat, like a rubber band. The upper lip, underarms and bikini line are more sensitive than arms or legs. Most people settle in within a minute. You may notice a smell of singed hair, which is normal. You can drive yourself home and get on with your day.

Who it’s for

It’s for you if you have dark hair on your face or body that you’re tired of shaving, waxing or threading, and your skin is anywhere from fair to deep brown. If you’re South Asian, Black, East Asian or Hispanic and were told somewhere else that you’re not a candidate, come talk to us.

Choose something else if your hair is blond, red, gray or white. Light hair doesn’t have enough color for any laser to target. We’ll also wait during pregnancy, over irritated or broken skin, or while you have a fresh tan.

How we do it

Your visit starts with your skin, not the machine. If something else will serve your skin better, we’ll tell you. Every plan follows the same steps:

  1. A skin check first. We look at your skin tone, your hair and your history, including any medicines and past scarring.
  2. The right approach, explained. We choose the laser and settings for your skin and hair, and tell you why.
  3. A test spot when it makes sense. We treat a small patch and see how your skin responds before doing the whole area.
  4. Gentle first, then adjusted. We start conservatively and adjust over your sessions as we learn how your skin responds.
  5. Photos at every visit, in the same light, so you can see real progress.

Downtime and aftercare

Most people go straight back to their day. For the next day or two:

  • Use a cool compress if the area feels warm.
  • Wear SPF 30 or higher on treated skin every day, and skip tanning between sessions.
  • Skip hot tubs, saunas and hard workouts for 24–48 hours.
  • Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer. Hold off on scrubs and acids for a few days.
  • Shave between sessions if you like, but don’t wax, pluck or thread. The laser needs the hair root in place.
  • What’s normal: redness and small bumps for a day or two. Treated hairs shed over 1–3 weeks, which can look like regrowth before they fall out.

Results timeline

Hair grows in cycles, and each session only reaches the hairs that are growing at the time. That’s why it takes a series.

  • 1–3 weeks after each session: treated hairs shed.
  • Every 4–8 weeks: your next session, timed to catch the next wave of growth.
  • Over 6–8 sessions: less regrowth each time, and what grows back tends to be finer and lighter.
  • After your series: long-term hair reduction, with an occasional touch-up for areas driven by hormones, like the chin, upper lip and bikini line.

Questions and answers

How much does laser hair removal cost?

We publish prices on October 15, 2026, by area and by series. You’ll see the full price before you book.

Does laser hair removal work on dark skin?

It can. Our hair-removal laser is labeled for hair removal on all skin types, including dark skin. Hair color matters as much as skin tone: the laser looks for the color in the hair, so very light, gray, or red hair doesn’t respond well to any laser.

Can laser darken or burn darker skin?

It can when the laser or its settings are wrong for your skin. That’s why we use a laser suited to darker skin, try a small test spot first, and start gently. If something else will serve your skin better, we’ll tell you.

Does it work on Indian and South Asian skin?

It can. Most Indian and South Asian skin ranges from olive to deep brown, and that is the skin our hair-removal laser was chosen for. Dark, coarse hair gives the laser a clear target. We check both at your first visit.

How is it different from threading or waxing?

Threading and waxing pull hair out, so it grows back on its usual cycle. Laser targets the hair root over a series of sessions to reduce how much grows back. Plenty of people keep threading their brows and use laser on other areas.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

It feels like a quick snap of heat, often compared to a rubber band. The handpiece cools your skin as it goes, which helps. The upper lip and bikini line are more sensitive than legs or arms. Most people find it very manageable, and sessions are short.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people need 6–8 sessions per area, 4–8 weeks apart. Each session only reaches hairs that are actively growing, and only some of your hair is growing at any one time. That’s how hair works, not a sales pitch.

How long do results last?

After a full series, treated areas typically have much less hair, and what grows back tends to be finer and lighter. Hormones can prompt new growth over time, especially on the face, so an occasional touch-up is common. The honest term is long-term hair reduction, not hair gone forever.

Do you use IPL for hair removal?

Sometimes, for lighter skin with dark hair, when it suits you. IPL isn’t the right choice for brown or deeper skin tones, so for those we use our hair-removal laser instead.

How do I prepare for a session?

Shave the area the day before. Stop waxing, plucking and threading about four weeks ahead, because the laser needs the hair root in place. Come with clean skin, with no lotion, deodorant or makeup on the area, and skip tanning in the weeks before.

Can I be treated if I have a tan?

A recent tan changes how your skin reacts, so we may adjust your plan or ask you to wait until it fades. We’d rather move a session than rush one.

What areas do you treat?

Face, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, shoulders and the bikini area. The full list of areas publishes with our price list.
